Skåne, Sweden

Status: Competition proposal

The project idea originates from the understated and unpretentious architecture of Old Borstahusen. The characteristic buildings in the old fishing village carry a strong identity for the area. By using principles from the historical environment in a modern interpretation, we can create architecture that feels both familiar and contemporary.

The small-scale nature of the street house is combined with the enclosing qualities of the atrium house. The spaces between the houses are designed as Borstahusen “gatt” connecting the local street to the park.

Guillotine windows open up toward the park and create a clear silhouette in the landscape. The houses are embedded in lush gardens, carefully designed to delight the inhabitants and strengthen the biodiversity of the landscape.

The design of the houses demonstrates sensitivity to Borstahusen’s historical building structure, which has proven to be enduring and beloved for centuries, without compromising contemporary comforts.
